The SAC works extensively with the data submitted by local and state law enforcement agencies and produces annual reports on crime, hate crime, campus crime, and the number of law enforcement officers killed and assaulted, as well as topical reports on domestic violence and school crimes. In addition to these reports, the SAC manages TnCrimeonline.com, a user-friendly, web-based system for access to TIBRS data. The site provides the capability for contributing agencies, as well as the media and general public, to design their own reports and download data from the site. By logging in to a password-protected part of the site, TIBRS contributing agencies can access their current data at the incident level the day after they are received by SAC staff. After contributing agencies have ensured all data for the previous year are entered and accurate, they are made available for public access.
The SAC is working with a vendor to expand the capabilities at the TnCrimeonline.com site by adding dashboards and by linking the TIBRS data available on the website to crime mapping capabilities. The public will have access to thematic crime mapping, and the TIBRS contributing agencies and TBI staff will have access to point-to-point crime mapping.
