Each SAC Spotlight focuses on one of the state Statistical Analysis Centers, with descriptions of
the SAC's relationships with other state agencies, featured research projects and publications, and key personnel. By focusing on one SAC at
a time, we hope to highlight the critical role they all play in analyzing justice information in their state and informing the
development of sound public policy.

About the SAC:
The Ohio Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) is located in the Office of Criminal Justice Services, which is the State Administering Agency (SAA) for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program, the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) program, and the STOP Violence Against Women (VAWA) program, as well as a few state grant programs. The SAC, which is the policy and research arm of OCJS, is partially funded through a grant from the Bureau of Justice Statistics, State Justice Statistics program.
Building on the strength of its rigorous and timely research, the SAC identifies criminal justice needs, improves access to criminal justice data, evaluates the effectiveness of existing programs, and designs innovative initiatives to address the many justice issues affecting Ohio communities. The SAC also works closely with the SAA to collect data and conduct research in line with SAA priorities and, more generally, serves as a liaison to bridge the gap between research and policy.
In addition to the SAC director, there are four full-time research staff in the SAC, as well as one full-time program director for the Family Violence Prevention Center, which falls within the Policy and Research section. Each researcher has an area of expertise —corrections/reentry, crime prevention, juvenile justice, law enforcement/drug task forces, human trafficking, and crime analysis.
In past years, the SAC has won the Phillip Hoke National Publication Award for Excellence in Statistical Management for the State of Crime and Justice in Ohio. The Ohio SAC received this award for the 3rd Edition of this publication in 2005 and for the 4th Edition in 2008.
