Each SAC Spotlight focuses on one of the state Statistical Analysis Centers, with descriptions of the SAC's relationships with other state agencies, featured research projects and publications, and key personnel. By focusing on one SAC at a time, we hope to highlight the critical role they all play in analyzing justice information in their state and informing the development of sound public policy.

Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Justice Programs
Year Established: Relocated and established within State Administrative Agency (SAA) in 2003
Number of Staff: 2
About the SAC:
Minnesotas Statistical Analysis Center (MNSAC) supports Minnesotas policymakers and leaders by providing thorough and accurate data analysis and research on all aspects of the criminal and juvenile justice systems. This information assists decision makers at all levels to identify emerging critical issues and improve the effectiveness of Minnesota's justice system. The goals of the MNSAC are to:
- provide sound, understandable information to a variety of stakeholders;
- promote effective programming through evaluation capacity building;
- understand the various criminal justice data collection processes and procedures across the entire system; and
- serve as a clearinghouse of criminal justice information.
The MNSAC was originally located in the Department of Administration under Minnesota Planning. This Department was eliminated in 2003 and the Statistical Analysis Center was moved to the Department of Public Safety Office of Justice Programs, which is also Minnesotas State Administering Agency (SAA). The MNSAC supports the Office of Justice Programs by providing best practices information to grantees, assisting with grantee program evaluation, and disseminating pertinent research findings and statistics.
