Factors Related to Parole Violations and Revocations
JRSA has begun a project, being funded by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), designed to provide information on the circumstances surrounding parole violations and revocations. The goals of the project are to identify the number and nature of parole violations and factors related to these violations, as well as the factors related to the decision to revoke parole. The SACs in Maine, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming received awards to carry out data collection and analysis in their states. The states will examine a cohort of offenders on parole in 2006 and examine reasons for violations and revocations, and factors that relate to these decisions. The SACs will also conduct surveys of state and local parole administrators, supervisors and officers to gain insight into formal and informal policies and procedures related to violations and revocations.
