Standardizing the Display of IBR Data: An Examination of NIBRS Elements

In order to prepare users for analyzing incident-based data, this section presents information on individual data elements.  For each of the following elements:
Incident Date/Hour
Location
Type Weapon/Force Involved
Victim Injury
Relationship(s) of Victim(s) to Offender(s)
Drug-Related Offenses
Property Offenses

The following information may be available:

  • Data Quality Issues
  • Frequencies and Rate of Missing Data in NIBRS
  • Examples of How the FBI Presents the Data
  • Examples of How the Data are Grouped and Presented in Actual Reports
  • SPSS Code for Producing the Example Tables Presented

Note:  If you download the SPSS code, be sure to specify file names where appropriate, and update variable names to match the names in your data files.
