The New Mexico Statistical Analysis Center, located in the University of New Mexico's Institute for Social Research, used 1998 - 2002 incident-based data from the Albuquerque Police Department and Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office to examine travel distance of offenders committing robbery, burglary or assault offenses.

In this project, the New Mexico Statistical Analysis Center used incident-based data from Albuquerque PD to determine whether neighborhood crime is influenced by the presence of a school. Using crime data, the authors tested the Routine Activity and Social Disorganization theories to determine whether the presence of schools, school type, or school quality are related to crime.
