State SummaryMississippi has statewide legislation defining domestic violence and it does include same-sex romantic relationships. Since the state does not have a statewide Uniform Crime Reporting Unit, no law enforcement data are collected at the state level. The Mississippi Department of Health collects information from 14 domestic violence shelters and 8 rape crisis centers in the state using standardized forms. These data are in turn shared with the Department of Public Safety, the Mississippi Coalition Against Sexual Assault, and the Mississippi State Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The Department of Health publishes statistics related to domestic violence and sexual assault in its Annual Report.
The Mississippi Attorney General's Office Crime Prevention and Victim Services Division collects information on referrals from law enforcement agencies and service providers and publishes monthly statistical reports. State Projects
